Driver TraineeHours: This is a five day work week. Starting time varies and may include 10-14 hour days, will include a Saturday delivery schedule. Additional hours may be required to meet the seasonal nature of our business and to meet certain requirements of the Company. Report To: Driver Supervisor This is an hourly position. The minimum compensation for this position is $12.94/Helper and $17.12/ Driver. Summary: Responsible to perform the duties of a Driver's Helper and at the Company's direction be trained as a Driver. Upon completion of training as a Driver, the Driver Trainee will perform the responsibilities of a Driver's Help or Driver as needed to meet company scheduling. Responsibilities also include ensuring professional, accurate and prompt delivery of product to customers of SYSCO, with the highest level of customer service. Education and/or Requirements: High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to speak and communicate effectively with customers and other associates. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Maintain a Commercial Driver's License with a driving record meeting Company guidelines and federal highway administration guidelines for interstate commerce; NO OWI within the last three years, no multiple OWI within the past 10 years, and/or no more than (2) two moving violations in the past three years. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The associate is regularly required to drive, stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and smell. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and push/pull in excess of 100 pounds. Must meet the Department of Transportation's physical and vision requirements. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The associate is regularly exposed to wet, humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather with varying climate conditions, extreme cold or heat, and potentially exposed to chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, dust, and other challenges associated with travel. The noise level is moderate.
